Catching Up

Oh hey, I still have a blog.

I’ve been pretty neglectful of this thing lately, but it’s been tough to get the time to actually write. Anyway, I’ve had a handful of people–including some folks I had no idea even read this thing–tell me that they’ve been waiting to check on what’s been going on. So here’s the latest scoop on Guam. Also, I’ve been catching flack for not posting enough photos, so let’s see if I can’t drop some here.

Five Things to Know About Weather on Guam

When I first found out I was moving to Guam, I was thrilled to be moving to the sunny shores of the Pacific Tropics. Sure, I knew there was a threat of typhoons, but I figured they were few and far between, like hurricanes in New Orleans (and I was used to those!). So I figured that, overall, my days would be spent sitting in the sun. Heck, I even posted a Facebook status about my upcoming sunny adventure!

That One Time I Got Lost Leaving the Outlet Mall

Cut me some slack. It’s ten past one in the morning and I’m out of clever headings. Besides, it’s easier to refer to stories as “That One Time” rather than some other name that’ll be harder to remember as time goes on.

This morning, I decided that, being the last person I know to see The Dark Knight Rises, it would be fun to just practice driving around Guam by taking a quick trip down to Guam Premier Outlets (GPO), our nearest outlet mall/the only theater I know how to get to. After consulting my only map and memorizing the turns I needed to make, I set out for my first excursion on the island. Now, the thing about Guam is that there isn’t (as far as I can tell) much in the way of street signs. Instead, the streets have names on maps and numbered route signs in real life. And, though I’m sure that things become easier with more experience on the roads, this did not ease my concern of driving for the first time. Luckily, I was able to get to the mall without too much trouble. After the movie and some shopping, I went to head home. Unfortunately, my arrogance in thinking that the return trip would be just as easy as the first drive proved to be my downfall as the transit gods would soon curse me and my hubris.

Hafa Adai, World!

So I know I’ve been a bit late on getting this blog started, but let’s be honest. I was either in an airport or on a plane for 20 hours. I deserve some slack. Since I know everyone is so anxious to read about my new life on Guam, I’m hoping to be able to get up at least a post or two a week depending on the week’s “awesome rating.” Finally, much like my first experience driving on Guam (foreshadowing?!), I have next-to-no idea what direction this blog’s going to take until it actually gets there. But before I get into that adventure, let me back up a little bit.
